Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples (Gala or Honeycrisp recommended)
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar (or water)
  • 1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Core and slice apples into wedges (no need to peel). Place them in a slow cooker.
  2. Pour apple cider vinegar (or water) over the apples, then add spices and stir well.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours until apples are very soft.
  4. Puree with an immersion blender until smooth. If using a standard blender, transfer in batches.
  5. Switch slow cooker to high heat and cook uncovered for another 1-2 hours to thicken.
  6. Once thickened, let cool for about 30 minutes before transferring to airtight containers.
