  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons whole milk (for frosting)
  • 5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 4 cups confectioners sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 1 cup pecans (chopped, for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 10×15 inch baking pan.
  2. In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter with water and cocoa powder until combined. Bring to a boil and remove from heat.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together sour cream and eggs; set aside.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Add the egg mixture and cooled chocolate mixture; mix until combined.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 22-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. For the frosting: Combine milk, cocoa powder, and butter in a saucepan; bring to boil. Remove from heat and mix in confectioners' sugar and vanilla extract before folding in pecans.
  7. Spread warm frosting over the cake once it’s baked.
